Our Experience With Move For Hunger, Food Scarcity and the On Going Crisis
When we first became a sponsor for Move For Hunger a few years back, we like many, were not fully aware of the increasing epidemic of Food Insecurity and food waste in America. Move For Hunger is a charitable organization that mobilizes the resources of the moving an storage industry to combat this epidemic.Over 40 million Americans face hunger each day including an estimated 200,000 here in #Westchester. Many of them are children. Our experience with Move For Hunger these past several years has been enlightening and we encourage everyone to read about their organization and the amazing things they do to help #FightHunger
Here at Al’s Moving, it was recently brought to our attention that our total collected food donations since we began were enough to feed 1000 people. What stood out the most about this was how the handful of little contributions we made added up to seemingly make a difference in terms of that number of people. Move For Hunger contacts us for assistance with a #FoodDrive from time to time and we are always eager to help in collecting and transporting the food to our local #foodbank. We are always mentioning this cause to our moving customers who sometimes contact us to collect a donation. Usually, it’s a not much more than a few moving boxes worth of food at a time but it is rewarding to see that those small contributions do in fact add up to a lot.
Many in our community have been directly affected by the economic fallout from the Covid19 crisis. Jobs have been lost, businesses have been shutdown and for some there is uncertainty as to even when their next meal will be. We call upon our friends and neighbors here in #Westchester to pitch in. If you are at home in Self Isolation as many of us are, take some time to set aside a few non personable food items for donation. Contact us and we will gladly come pick them up and transport them to the Food Bank for Westchester. It’s the small things we all can do that together make a big difference. Let’s keep fighting #Covid19 and hunger together!
