After weeks of preparation, Moving Day has finally arrived. The boxes are all packed up and ready to go and the moving truck is pulling up to your home. During a move, there are many things going on at once and it’s often tough to know how to best help out while staying out of the movers way. While you might be tempted to keep a close eye on your movers to make sure they are being extra careful, there are better ways to keep busy and make your move as easy as possible.

The most important thing you can do to save time and money while moving is to ensure that you are properly packed and organized prior to the movers arriving. Make sure that all of your boxes are sealed and properly labeled with their contents and destination. Make a special indication for any boxes containing breakable items such as china or kitchenware. Don’t forget to pack up some of the items that are typically saved for the last minute – things like bed sheets, toiletries and contents of dresser drawers. Making sure that everything is packed and labeled accordingly will save time, avoid confusion and sure that everything ends up in the right place at your new home. If you or short on time, or just don’t feel like packing, have us do it. Al’s Moving offers full and partial packing options.

Nonetheless, things can happen and to mitigate the risk of damage and put your mind at ease its best to transport some smaller items yourself. Take time before or during your move to pack and load items such as jewelry, artwork and small electronics into your personal vehicle. This way you don’t have to stress about them getting damaged or lost in the shuffle of moving. Just be sure to leave all of the heavy lifting for the movers- that’s what they are there for!

3. Guide the Movers to Your New Home:

Once the moving truck is all paced up and ready to go its time for the drive to your new home. Upon arrival, it’s a good idea to offer refreshments to the movers. They are working hard and still have to unload all of your belongings into your new home! Once your movers start unloading, they will needs to know where to place all of your furniture. It’s a good idea to create a layout prior to your move so that you will know where you want to have everything placed. This will save time and the aggravation of having to move items multiple times.
